Abstract

Four soil groups, viz, alluvial soils of recent origin, non-calcic brown, grey brown and brown soils (saline phase), occurring in semi-arid region of Rajasthan were examined for their clay mineral characterization. Illite was predominant in recent alluvium and grey brown soils whereas the clay from non-calcic brown and brown soils were found to consist of dominantly montmorillonitic type of minerals.
