Abstract

The results of field experiments to study the effect of liming on wheat and maize crops in acid soils of Nagaland are reported. Significant increase in grain yield of wheat and maize was produced with the application of 20.0 and 25.0q lime/ha, respectively. Lime applied to maize recorded significant residual effect on the yield of succeeding wheat. Liming ameliorated soil acidity to a favourable limit and substantially augmented calcium and magnesium status and lime potential in soil. Liming also increased the uptake of phosphorus, potassium and calcium+magnesium by wheat and maize.
