Phosphate reaction products formed after application of different carriers of fertilizer P in iateritic soil of west coast in Peninsular India were identified by x-ray diffraction technique followed by chemical analysis. Reaction of monoammonium phosphate with the soil yielded ammonium taranakite and variscite, while monocalcium phosphate gave rise to brushite, monctite, variscite and overite. Uramphos formed variscite and strengite as reaction products. Fe3+ and Al3+ have been found to be the dominant cations responsible for the fixation of phosphorus in lateritic soil.
