Sodium accounted for most of the salts in a saline calcareous soil up to the summer season and then declined to very low level by mid-winter. The amount of water soluble Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and HCO3− were maximum in June in the uppermost layer. Water dispersible clay and degree of dispersion were less during June but increased again in winter. In general, calcium ammonium nitrate gave higher yield than urea or ammonium sulphate.
