In a field experiment on sunflower (Peredovik), conducted during the winter season of 1978–79 and 1979–80, nutrient application and cultural practices tended to increase the oil content in seed and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium concentration in both seed and stalk. Soil and foliar application of N or K alone and N with K influenced oil content, oil yield and NPK uptake by the crop; maximum yield of oil as well as NPK uptake were recorded with soil application of N with K. Among the different cultural treatments, inter-cultivation gave the highest oil yield and NPK uptake followed by mulching and herbicide application.
