Abstract

The infiltration characteristics of four different soil series of Vertisols were studied in unploughed, ploughed and cropped land. Highest infiltration rate occurred in ploughed soils as compared to others owing to the combined influence of lower initial moisture content and bulk density. Saline alkali nature of soil reduced the infiltration rate drastically in one of the soil series. Based on infiltration rates the soils of four series located in the Central Farm area at Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani, fall in good to medium range of irrigability.
