Abstract

Maximum evaporation rate as a function of depth of water-table when the suction at the surface is infinite, in respect of sand, sandy loam and sandy day loam was predicted using some relationships suggested by other workers and was verified experimentally. It has been observed that the maximum evaporation rate for these soils can be evaluated using the relationship proposed by Gardner, and Raats and Gardner while the one given by Campbell for calculating capillary conductivity does not predict evaporation within the range of experimental error.
