Abstract

Application of pressmud and lime to ameliorate soil acidity resulted in significant reduction in the availability of zinc and iron in soil but not to the level of deficiency. At lower doses, the concentration of P was raised in root, shoot and grain of wheat and maize followed by a decline after the incorporation of higher amounts of ameliorating agents. A progressive rise in calcium content in plant tissues was observed. Concentration of Zn and Fe in root, stem and straw of wheat and maize plants was not markedly influenced by the application of pressmud and lime but a sharp decrease in Zn content in grain resulted with their increasing doses.
