Abstract

An attempt was made to compare maximum rise of capillary water in some soils with the values computed on theoretical considerations using Poiseuille's equation for the flow of water through a capillary tube. The experimental values were found to be very close to the calculated ones based on capillary rise observations for about one and a half hour. The maximum height increased with the increase in the fineness of the texture of the soils.
