Abstract

The soils developing under coniferous and broad leaf species within the altitude limits 1645 to 2250m above m.s.l. in the Darjeeling Himalayan Region have been described. These are rich in humus compounds and mobile forms of sesquioxides. Based on morphological features and analytical data, the soils have been classified up to subgroup level according to the taxonomic system of classification.
