Abstract

In an appraisal of soil tests for phosphorus based upon the contribution of inorganic P fractions in acidic hill soils of Himachal Pradesh, it was found that the Olseris method (sodium bicarbonate extraction) was superior to others for predicting the available P status of these soils for lentil grown in pots. Al-P was the most important inorganic form contributing to phosphorus nutrition of the test crop. The dominant P fraction that was removed by Olsen's extractant was also Al-P. The critical level of available P for lentil was found to be 7 ppm.
