Abstract

In a typical area in the north-east Punjab, eight land-types viz, foothills, alluvial fans, sand-bars, covered flood plain, upper terrace, lower terrace, channel and river flood-plain were identified using aerial photographs. The soils in unstable surfaces are coarse textured and those in stable surfaces are relatively fine textured. The upper terrace and channel soils show definite profile development. Sand to silt ratio and TiO2 content indicate wide-spread stratification. The relationships between physiography and soils are included.
