Abstract

The soil-water profiles in homogeneous as well as in layered samples involving sandy loam followed by clay loam from semi-arid and humid regions and their inverse situations, were predicted by numerical solution of the water transport equation under known initial and boundary conditions. There was a fair agreement between observed and predicted soil water distribution profiles both in homogeneous and layered soil samples. A retardation/acceleration of the wetting front advance was noticed, when a fine textured soil sample preceded/followed a coarse textured one.
