Abstract

Field experiments conducted on contribution of green manures to P nutrition of rice showed that fertilizer P addition increased dry matter production and P uptake by green manures. Sunnhemp produced the highest amount of dry matter followed by cowpea and dhaincha. Grain yield and P uptake by rice were the highest in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) manured plots followed by dhaincha (Sesbania aculeata) and sunnhemp (Crotolaria juncea). Both green manuring and P addition moved the P solubility towards OCP but in fallow plots receiving no fertilizer P, soil phosphate solubility moved towards β-TCP showing decline in P availability under non - P fertilized fallow plots.
