In a field experiment conducted at Kanpur on Udic Ustochrepts during rabi 1982–83 ahd 1983–84, three varieties of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) (Varuna, Pusa Bold and RLM-514) responded significantly to Zn, and optimum doses of zinc had a varietal difference. On an average, application of 30 kg Zn S04 gave higher beneficial effect in both tlie years. Addition of Zn increased significantly its content and uptake, and decreased the contents of phosphorus and sulphur. Highest oil and glucosinolate contents in seeds, and prdtein contents in cake were recorded at 45 kg ZnS04 ha−1. Variety Varuna gave significantly higher oil and glucosinolate contents in seeds and protein contents in cake as compared with Pusa Bold and RLM-514 varieties.
