Vertical distribution of different forms of sulphur. viz. total, organic, non-sulphate and sulphate-S in ten representative soil groups of Himachal Pradesh, namely, Bhota, Theog, Rishikesh, Nagwain, Naggar, Palampur, Kangra, Nauni, Saproon and Dhaulakuan was investigated. While total and organic S ranged form 160.6 to 325 ppm and 65 to 228.4 ppm. respectively, the corresponding range values for non-sulphate and sulphate Swere 26.8 to 107.5 ppm and 5.5 to 21.2 ppm. Relationship between total Sand other forms of this nutrient was positive and significantin the soils of this mountainous transect. However, non-sulphate S showed no such relationship with sulphate S and organic S. In general, all forms except non-sulphate S decreased down the depth in soil profile.
