An evaluation on the effect of Calcutta city waste compost (cwc) along with the application of fertilizers with respect to yield of rice was made on an alluvial soil (Typic Ustifluvent) of West Bengal. The CWC was applied alone and in combination with fertilizers. Significant effect of compost on yield and growth of rice has been predicted along with uptake of macro-and micro-nutrients. Though high level of nitrogen application has been found to be effective, low level of nitrogen application in combination with compost closely followed the former treatement in respect of growth parameters, nutrient uptake and yield of rice. A perusal of profit figure indicates highest increase in the margin of profit by supplementing city waste compost with urea as compared to other treatments.
