Abstract

Information on soils and yields of different crops were interpreted to screen out the best possible response of crop adaptability to aspecific soil taxa in order to advocate the appropriate land use crop planning to improve the yield. The series belonging to fine, montmorillonitic, hyperthermic family of Typic Chromusterts were found better for cotton, sorghum, pigeonpea and groundnut and that of fine montmorillonitic, hyperthermic family of Vertic Ustochrepts for wheat. The soil site characteristics such as depth, clay content, calcareousness and soil reaction appeared to be most striking factors influencing the crop response.
