Abstract

The average crop production of north Bihar is low due to waterlogged chaur land, which is fertile but liSually submerged three to nine months or even more in a year. Information regarding the chaur lands, which may be useful for better soil management, were collected in Chanman and Deopar chaur of Samastipur and Nemopur chaur of Muzaffarpur for the soil, characteristics. The physical and water transimission characteristics vary from chaur to chaur and within the chaur. The clay content increased with depth and also down the elevation. Bulk density, in filtration and hydraulic conductivity are higher in the sub-soil.
