Abstract

A non-aqueous titrimetric method has been developed for the determination of total acidity of humic substances. The method involves conductometric titration of a suspension of hulruc (HA) or fulvic acid (FA) in acetone with a solution of KOH in isopropyl alcohol, in an atmosphere of nitrogen. The acidity values obtained thus, are comparable to those determined by baryta titration with the additional advantage that sample requirements are smaller and the process is much more rapid, simple, reproducible and accurate.
