Abstract

A laboratory experiment was conducted to study the movement of 35S tagged sulphate in the presence of FYM; CaCO3 and PO43- in some Indian soils. Eight different type of soils were used in the study. 10 ppm of S through 35S Labelled K2SO4 was added on the surface of each soil column. Movement of 35S increased with depth in soils of Balsamand (Typic Ustipsamment), H.A.U. farm (Typic Ustochrept), Hisar (Inceptisol), Kaul (Typic Ustifluvent). Hyderabad black (Vertisol) and Palampur (Entisol) and there was a little effect of FYM, CaCO3 and PO43- application on the movement. In case of Hyderabad red (Oxisol) and Thiruvananthapuram soils (Ultisol) application of FYM. CaCO3 and PO43- increased 35S movement significantly. Total recovery of 35S (Morgan's extractable) was found least under FYM application followed by control and PO43- and highest with CaCO3. The total per cent recovery of 35S was more in Vertisol and less in Oxisol of Hyderabad.
