Abstract

Five pedons of the hill slope soils of Middle Andaman Island were characterized and classified taxonomically. These are situated on a slightly sloping land terrain with undulating surfaces. Soils are strongly to extremell acidic andfairly high in organic matter. The value of CEC varied from 10.6 to 23.2 cmol(p+) kg−1 and calcium dominates the exchange complex along with exchangeable Al3+. Soils were classified under the two orders: Entisols and Inceptisols.
