Abstract

The adsorption and desorption of copper in avertisol of Kota was studied. Studies on the rate of inactivation of copper were made on three different soil suspensions (Alfisol, Vertisol and Inceptisol) by copper selective electrode which indicate that copper ions are inactivated immediately after addition of soil water suspension. The studies also suggest that two mechanisms appear to govern the inactivation phenomena. Studies on the Ca-Cu exchange reaction show that a measurable fraction of added copper was irreversibly fixed. Adsorption and desorption studies also show that there was a hysteresis. The study of adsorption-desorption. hysteresis allows US to distinguish between adsorption reaction and precipitation in the complex form or fixation processes occurring in the soil.
