Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in sulphur deficient calcareous soil to study the effect of pyrite and organic manures (FYM and pressmud) on chlorophyll content in leaf, grain yield, concentration and uptake of sulphur by lentil crop and also the availability of sulphurin soil. Pyrite was added @ 0,2,4 and 8 q ha−1 and organic manures @ 10 t ha−1 each of FYM and pressmud separately as well as in combination with pyrite. Application of pyrite. FYM and pressmud appreciably increased the above plant parameters and available S status of the soil. Conjoint use of pyrite and organic manures further increased the chlorophyll content in leaf, grain yield, sulphur concentration and its uptake by grain and soil available sulphur. Higher level of pyrite either alone or in combination with organic manures proved very effective with respect to sulphur nutrition of lentil crop.
