Abstract

Alfisols and Vertisols from two different locations were leached with synthetic irrigation water having different SARs and electrolyte concentrations. Initial and final hydraulic conductivities and relative hydraulic conductivity were calculated. A marked decrease in hydraulic conductivity and relative hydraulic conductivity and an increase in ESP values were observed with an increase in SAR levels at both surface and subsurface horizons. Alfisols recorded higher ESP values than Vertisols. The ESP of these soils along with texture were the causes for decrease in hydraulic conductivity in these soils.
