Abstract

Through a reconnaissance soil survey of the Mahsani Island, forming a part of the Sunderban delta, the main soil groups developed on alluvium were identified, described, sampled and mapped. These soils were classified taxonomically as Vertic Haplaquepts. Aerie Haplaquepts and Typic Haplaquepts. The association of Aerie Haplaquepts and Typic Haplaquepts cover about 38 per cent area while Vertic Haplaquepts - Aerie Haplaquepts and Typic Haplaquepts-Aeric Haplaquepts occupy about 32 and 30 per cent area, respectively.
