Abstract

The plant nutrition from peaty soil is somewhat different when compared with other types of soils in the country. Considering the importance of iron and zinc nutrition in plants and also the importance of different synthetic chelating agent/in extracting them, studies were undertaken with four chelating agents, viz. EDTA, DTPA, EDDHA and CDTA to extract iron and zinc from a peaty soil. As various soil components like carbonates and bicarbonates, organic matters, sesquioxides and amorphous materials contribute consideraly to the adsorption desorption processes, the role in the release of iron and zinc was also studied with respect to the chelating agents.
