Abstract

Distribution of water soluble and exchangeable potassium in surface and profile samples of selected bench mark soils of Punjab was investigated. The soils of aridic, ustic and udic zones were medium to high, low to high, and low to medium in available K, respectively. The mean content of water soluble and exchangeable K was higher in aridic soils followed by ustic and udic zone soils. The correlation between water soluble and exchangeable K was highly significant in aridic and ustic zone soils and non-significant in udic moisture regime. The slope of the regression line increased from udic through ustic to aridic zone. Thus, at a given level of exchangeable K, a greater amount was present in water soluble form in aridic soils followed by soils of ustic and udic zones.
