Fertility status of some Alfisols from three districts of Meghalaya has been studied. In general, organic carbon content is quite high in the soil samples and higher the altitude, higher is the content of organic carbon. The soils are generally low in available P. Only a small portion (about 8 per cent) from East Khasi Hills may be considered deficient in available K. Among the four micronutrient cations, deficiency of Zn, Cu and Mn is expected in quite a few soils. None of the soil samples is found deficient in available Fe. The soil properties that affect the availability of nutrients are elucidated and discussed.
