On a sloppy degraded grassland of a high rainfall region of Kerala, combined application of 90 kg N and 30 kg P2O5 ha−1 increased the biomass yield seven fold at two years of age. Nitrogen application alone at the rate of 90 kg N ha−1 increased the biomass four times. The applications of N and P together significantly increased the uptake of N, P, K, Ca and Mg. The concentration of these nutrients, however, varied greatly in different plant parts and the silvicultural efficiency (SE) of N or P was higher at lower rate of application.
