Abstract

Soils in a toposequence and situated in the sisal (Agave sisalana) growing area of the Beldungri in Orissa have been classified and characterized for physical and chemical properties in relation to Soil Taxonomy. The soils are classified as Udic Paleustalfs, Udic Haplustalfs and Aeric Haplaquents. Imperfect drainage condition, presence of CaCO3 nodules in the root zone and shallow soil depth are some of the limitations of these soils for sisal cultivation.
