Attempts were made to evaluate steady upward flux of water from shallow water table using solutions of Gardner (1958), Anat (1965) and Cisler (1969). Comparison of experimentally observed fluxes from sand, loamy sand, sandy loam and silty clay loam soils (filled in columns) for 0.6 and 1.0 m watertable depths with the evaluated values indicated superiority of the Gardner estimates over the other two estimates of Cisler and Anat. The closeness of Gardner estimates with the observed values was attributed to the rounding off the ‘n’ values to higher side of the integer values used in this study. It is recommended that Gardner method should be used where ‘n’ values are raised to the nearest integer values only. For other cases, Cisler method should be used to evaluate the steady upward flux of water from soils.
