Abstract

Distribution of different forms of potassium was studied in ten Vertisols of northern Karnataka. The variation in the distribution of potassium depends on the mineral present. particle size and degree of weathering. Water soluble. exchangeable/non-exchangeable and latticeforms of potassium constituted. on an average. 0.02 per cent, 2.60 per cent, 8.4 per cent and 865 per cent of the total soil potassium, respectively. Major fraction of potassium constituted the mineral fraction. All theforms of soil potassium were intercorrelated, indicating the existence of dynamic equilibrium among them.
