Abstract

The adsorption of Mg by soil was studied in coconut growing soils of Kasaragod (Paleustult), Vittal (Haplustull) and Appangala (Hapluslalf). The Kasaragod (I and II) and Vittal soils gave the best fit with Langmuir adsorption isotherm, while Appangala gave the best fit with Temkin adsorption isotherm. In the case of Appangala soil, the Langmuir adsorption isotherm showed a deviation from linearity at higher Mg concentration of the equilibrating solution. The isotherm parameters computed from the isotherm curve is discussed in relation to the soil properties and long term Mg supplying power of different soils.
