Abstract

A large number of experiments were conducted at cultivators fleldson soils of variable fertility status to study N and P responses to pearl millet over several years. Crop responded significantly to applied N @ 100 kg ha−1 and fertilizer P@ 30 kg P2O5 ha−1 on all the soils. Soil texture had marked effect on the magnitude of responses to pearl millet. For better prediction of N and P responses to this crop, organic carbon and texture of the soil should be considered as major factors. Fertilizer efficiency declined with rise in soillertillty and at higher levels of fertilizer application.
