Abstract

Three pedons located each in two different toposequences of Bhagalpur district in Bihar were characterized for land evaluation following the ratings based on Storie Index, land use capability and soil and land irrigability classifications. The productivity and potential productivity ratings were also computed to evaluate the coefficient of improvement. The effect of topography with gentle slope gradient and rolling physiography not only exhibits identical soil development but also its impact was observed to be the same on land evaluation particularly on existing actual productivity ratings. The productivity of these soils could be raised by 3.08 to 5.56 times. Sodicity is the chiefsingle limiting factor which can be ameliorated.
