Abstract

Changes in different forms of native soil Zn were studied under submerged condition in ten old alluvial rice growing soils of south Bihar plain. The progressive decrease in water soluble plus exchangeable, organically bound and crystalline sesquioxide bound forms of Zn was concomitant with increase in complexed and amorphous sesquioxides boundforms upon submergence. The overall negative value of net change in Zn transformation corroborates the incidence of Zn deficiency in soil as a result of submergence. Among different forms of Zn, the changes in organically bound Zn showed a significant positive correlation with organic carbon, CEC, sesquioxide and clay content, whereas changes in amorphous sesquioxide Zn showed significant positive correlation with sesquioxide and clay content.
