Abstract

In a long-term field experiment, activities of six soil enzymes related to carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus cycling and peroxide decomposition were assayed in Typic Ustropept. The enzyme activity was found to be maximum in FYM treatment. Higher rates of NPK fertilization enhanced the activities of soil enzymes and the effect was more pronounced with FYM in combination with fertilizers (NPK). Continuous addition of inorganic fertilizers for over twenty years have not caused any detrimental effect on the enzyme dynamics of the soil.
