Abstract

In a study conducted on a salt affected black soil to assess the causes of failure of a sub-surface drainage system, it was observed that the filter efficiency of the existing system might have improved, iffines in the filter would have been more. Further, the result of a laboratory study conducted also confirms the above observation. It was noted that filter combination of IO cm coarse sand and 2 cm fine sand arranged from coarse to fine (top to bottom) is the best suitable filter for the salt affected black soil.
