Based on a field experiment conducted on a Typic Chromustert with wheat (Kalyansona), fertilizer prescription equations were calculated. Application of fertilizers for targetted yields of 30, 35, 40 and 45 q ha−1 gave higher returns per rupee invested on fertilizer than following soil test procedure. The highest returns per rupee invested on fertilizer were for 30 q ha−1 yield target of wheat (12.61). The results of field verification trials, conducted at different locations showed that yield targets of 30 and 40 q ha−1 were achieved (± 10% variation) in majority of the trials, the differences between the yield targets of 30 and 40 q ha−1 were nonsignificant indicating that yields were achieved. A significant positive relationship between targetted and actual yields of wheat was obtained (r = 0.749**).
