Abstract

A survey was carried out in the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to study the present status of calcium in petioles of grapevines and soils of vineyards. The optimum range of calcium requirement in petioles of grapevines and soils was worked out using Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS). The optimum range of calcium in petioles was 1.30 to 2.07 per cent when sampled at bud differentiation stage in Andhra Pradesh, while it was 0.30 to 0.57 per cent, 0.75 to 1.70 per cent in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, respectively when petioles were collected at flowering stage for Anab-e-Shahi cultivar. For Thompson Seedless the optimum range was 0.97 to 1.37 per cent and 0.72 to 1.12 per cent for petioles sampled at bud differentiation stage and flowering stage, respectively. The optimum range of available calcium in soils of Maharashtra ranged from 0.12 to 3.2 per cent, for Andhra Pradesh from 0.11 to 0.37 per cent, and for Karnataka from 0.04 to 0.08 per cent. The nutrition of grapevines in relation to the status of calcium in soil and petiole is discussed.
