Abstract

The data from air-dried samples did not tally with the analysis done on freshly drawn soilsamples. Analysis of freshly drawn soil samples showed MWD value of 4.33 mm and 84.1 per cent of aggregates > 0.25 mm size at transplanting whereas that of air-dried soil showed respective values of 0.89 mm and 44.7 per cent. The values of freshly drawn soil remained higher for all determinations made at different time intervals during rice growth. The freshly drawn soil samples were more stable to rain drop impact than the air-dried samples. The number of drops required to destroy a fresh aggregate were higher than those for air-dried aggregates.
