Mass movement and associated soil characteristics in the state of Meghalaya were studied in three locations, viz. Mylliem, Ryngngain and Mawlat each at three different profile sites. The types of mass movements identified were topple, slabslide, talus and soil creep. The study reveals that mass movement is mostly related to gradient, length and shape of the slope. Soils in topple, slabslide are moderately shallow, sandy clay loam, excessively drained and subangular blocky, whereas soils in creeps are clay loam, fine, moderate and sub-angular blocky. Increase in gradient has resulted in gradual fall in finer soil fractions along with other characteristics.
