Two typifying pedons belonging to Chromic Haplustert and Typic Haplustert were evaluated for their primary mineral reserves i.e. stage of weathering. Quartz was the dominant mineral followed by feldspar in coarse, medium, fine fraction of sand and silt. Feldspars and mica were dominant in the coarse clay fraction in both the soils. Quartz showed decreasing trend from coarse sand to coarse clay. The quartz! total feldspar ratio indicate that the surface soils were comparatively more weathered than their corresponding subsurface horizons. The relative stability index values showed richness of potassium, Ca-feldspars in both the soils and indicated higher weathering in Karanpur soils.
