National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Amravati Road, Nagpur, Maharashtra, 440010.
Attempt has been made to assess qualitatively soil sustainability of the Nagpur district based on district soil survey data base on 1:50,000 scale through the formulation of simplified soil sustainability index (SI) and their classes. The soil sustainability defined as the relative number of years when a soil depth will be reduced to less than 0.25 m in comparison with a deep soil assumed having maximum sustainability in a physiographic environment. Finally soil sustainability map has been prepared and its relevance to land use has been discussed.
