In Hassan, 16 per cent of the total cultivated area is acidic. Majority of the soils under study were sandy loam with low cation exchange capacity. The nature of acidity in these soils is pH-dependent. Extent of calcium saturation ranged from 5.3 to 26.4 per cent and aluminium saturation ranged from 11.6 to 39.4 per cent. Lime additions based on exchangeable calcium method correlated with soil physicochemical properties.
