Profile water storage capacity of soils of scarce rainfall zone of Andhra Pradesh was determined, Regression analysis was done to develop equations for predicting water retention at field capacity and wilting point using easily measurable soil parameters, viz. sand, silt and clay content and bulk density, Water retained at wilting point could be predicted from the mechanical composition alone whereas for field capacity values inclusion of bulk density data enhanced the accuracy of its prediction, The equations for prediction of available water accounted for around 50 per cent variability only and therefore the available water cap~city of soils could be calculated from the predicted field capacity and wilting point values,
