Abstract

Alfisols developed on granite-gneiss in gently sloping and undulating uplands of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh were studied for their pedological development using soil reconstruction technique and numerical indices based on morphological properties with respect to parent material. Loss of fine materials from the surface horizon and their deposition in the subsurface soils were evident from the reconstruction analysis reflecting the development of the soils. Higher redness rating index showed greater soil development and it ranged from 6.2 to 20.2 in different Bt horizons. Soils in the gently sloping uplands showed greater pedogenic development by virtue of their comparatively higher index values than the soils in the undulating uplands.
