Abstract

Leaching losses of sulphur were studied in loamy sand and sandy loam soils collected from the control and continuously green manured plots in two long-term experiments at the research farm of Punjab Agricultural University. Ludhiana. The studies indicated that 90 per cent of the tota; sulphur leached in both the soils was recovered during the first 5 days. In Sesbania green manured soil the leaching losses of sulphur were lower as compared to control and the per cent decrease in sulphur lost from the column after 16 days of leaching was about 22 per cent in loamy sand as compared to 28 per cent in sandy loam soil. However, after 16 days the effect of Sesbania green manure on the leaching losses of added sulphur was only about 7 per cent in loamy sand and negligible in sandy loam soil.
