Residual effect of long-term nse of fertilizers alone and in combination with FYM on properties of swell-shrink soil (Vertisols) and yield of soybean were stndied after five years of soybean-based cropping system. Results indicate a significant improvement in soil properties and the highest yield of soybean was recorded with the application of 7.5 Mg FYM ha−1 with half dose of recommended Nand P which registered 26.81 and 20.10 per cent increase over control and full dose of fertilizer, respectively. It could save 50 per cent Nand P and full dose of zinc. Soybean followed by gram was superior over other cropping sequences with respect to seed and straw yield and soil fertility.
